Costume designer

Costume designers dress characters, not actors. Every seam is a biography — the worn collar, the wrong button, the dress that tells you how the story ends.

What do they actually do?

A costume designer tells the story in fabric. On a typical week they might:

Read scripts for character clues
Research eras and worlds
Sketch and fit costumes
Run workshops and fittings
Manage continuity on set

In one sentence: they tell the character's story in fabric.

The part nobody tells you

The audience should never see a costume. They should see a person who got dressed this morning — in 1889, on Mars, or backstage at the opera.
